It's stopped !

Raining that is - the cubs are on their day out today we are currently on the boat up to Ambleside and the sun is trying to make an appearance. We had a good visit to the aquarium and when we disembark we are off to the crazy golf. When we have finished that we are having our fish and chip supper, then back to camp. Missing blog ! Again

Sorry another blog seems not to have up loaded I did write last night but can't see it. Tues was glorious sunshine all day very different to today ! Activities included canoeing high ropes instead of the sailing, the scouts learned survival skills and shelter building. 12 scouts slept out overnight in their shelters with a plan b to bring them in should the forecast turn out as predicted. It wasn't too bad although some were a little soggy.

Sunshine -bliss

Sailing was cancelled due to high winds but they had a high ropes alternative which was really great fun, Ethan was invested at the top (20 ft up) look out for the photos. One group of scouts have been canoeing and the explorers have been there this afternoon. The other scouts are on their way back from Ambleside, tea tonight pasta bolognese.

The cubs had their own mini hike and adventure. Tea was roast turkey dinner never seen food move so quickly followed by pie and custard. Today Monday two groups are on the lake and one one their day out at the aquarium. Weather not great some wind about and rain typical lakes day. Canoeing is going ahead the sailing may have to be re scheduled.I can see some brighter sky so fingers crossed it might brighten up later. Kit Day

Hi everyone

had a day off the shopping today ! just had to supervise Will's packing, need to pack my own kit sometime soon. Tonight the kit was dropped off at 4th Moreton, medications and pocket money collected in and final instructions given. Don't forget on Saturday you don't need to bring your own Group necker as we have had a new one made for us all especially for camp, we will give these out on Sat am as we board the coach. Only two days now until we depart, apparently it's lovely in the Lakes at the moment, let's hope it continues all of next week for us ! Fresh food shopping tomorrow what an interesting life I lead !
See you all Saturday.

Shopping begins

Hi everyone
completed my second trip to Costco today and the car has groaned back each day, laden with all the goodies for camp. Asda tomorrow to get the few bits I can't get from Costco (Cherry Bakewells !) and then back to Costco Friday for the fresh food, meat etc, think we will need a coach for the food alone ! Looking forward to seeing everyone with their kit on Thursday night, final arrangements have been emailed out to Thurstaston today.
see you soon

Final planning meeting

Last night (Wed 20th) the entire Leader team got together for summer camp final planning, Sue, Phill, Andy and Shelagh brought all the rest of the team who could attend up to speed with the plans so far. It took a while as there is a lot going on during the week away and because we are so many (60 + Scouts and 14 Leaders). The programme is finalised, the menu drawn up, room lists sorted and the groups formed. There are 5 groups of Explorers, Scouts and Cubs, each with a leader and assistant and each day they have several different activities. Each group has a day out at the Lakeside Aquarium, followed by a cruise to Ambleside, a few hours round the town and the shops followed by a fish and chip supper. Our last day on site the Friday is our chill day, we figure we all will be so exhausted by then we will need it !
We will post information about the programme, menu etc so you can all see what's happening on a daily basis, Shelagh and Sue are meeting next week to sort out the food shopping arrangements, the countdown continues towards the departure date. Keep looking in for more news of summer camp 2011.

Paperwork is out !

1st Thurstaston paperwork has been emailed to all campers tonight, there is a good deal of information on these documents and all forms etc should be returned by the dates and times detailed please.
Cubs, Scouts and Explorers at 4th Moreton got their paperwork at the end of last week I believe.

It is really important that if anyone, parent or child has any questions or needs to know anything they are not sure about, to please ask in the next week or two at the troop or pack meetings. We can't help if we don't know !

Less than 4 weeks to go now .......................

Camp Leaders meet again

Morning, the Leader team met again last night and sorted various agenda items, including who sleeps where, and some more work on the programme, on  both the bought in activities (Sailing, Canoeing etc) and the on site activities such as crate stacking. As there are so many of us on camp, the Explorers, Scouts and Cubs are to be formed into Groups of 12/14 to do their activities through the week. Each Group will have a Leader in charge and assistants to help organise things. Throughout the week, there will be competitions and challenges and activities as well as duty rotas ! for the washing up and similar lovely jobs that need doing. Well, need to go to work, will update you with more progress as we make it. Only 4 and a half weeks to go, getting excited ? I am.

Summer Camp Prep underway

Hi everyone
the organising team has had several meetings already to plan summer camp for 1st Thurstaston and 4th Moreton Scout Groups. This year we are going to Great Towers in the Lake District for our joint summer camp, this site is now part of the Scout Activity Centres group and under new management. The site offers many on site activities and the lake is close by for water activities as well. We now have our programme in place, the Explorers, Scouts and Cubs will be divided into 5 groups of 12 / 14 to do their activities for the week, which include canoeing, sailing, crate stacking, zip wire to name but a few. We also plan a day out for each group hopefully to the Lakeside Aquarium with a cruise on the lake and a visit to Ambleside. This blog will be our main form of communication for the week away, providing I can find a hot spot to get a signal ! We managed last year in a field in Cheshire so I am sure I can find one this year too. Already looking forward to a great camp, fingers crossed for good weather too !
